Electromagnetic Field (EMF) Safety and Awareness

WHAT IS AN ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD AND WHY SHOULD WE BE AWARE OF THEM?

Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) exist everywhere, right down to each cell of the body and up to the earth and the sun, which generate their own. EMFs are defined as physical fields created by electrically charged objects. Electromagnetic fields are also called electromagnetic waves and electromagnetic radiation. If EMFs are everywhere, then why the concern about their safety? Because EMFs come in a wide spectrum of frequencies from high to low, some of which are harmless and some of which are harmful. A magnet generates a very low frequency EMF that many believe can be healing, while an x-ray generates a high frequency electromagnetic field that can cause birth defects if it hits a growing fetus or cancer in someone who is overexposed. Then there's a huge middle area of the electromagnetic spectrum where there's disagreement among scientists and researchers about whether the EMFs are harmful. This includes the vast array of technological devices we surround ourselves with every day, each of which emits its own EMF. There is controversy about whether the EMFs given off by cell phone towers, electrical generating stations and microwave ovens are harmful. There's also significant disagreement about whether the EMFs given off by cell phones are harmful.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), "Electromagnetic fields of all frequencies represent one of the most common and fastest growing environmental influences, about which anxiety and speculation are spreading. All populations are now exposed to varying degrees of EMF, and the levels will continue to increase as technology advances." What they're really saying is that we're all exposed to electromagnetic pollution, and we don't know what's really harmful and what's not, and they're looking into it.
